Katherine Mathisen
My work is motivated by a need to communicate in a non verbal language. Creating and communicating using a visual and tactile vocabulary allows me to go beyond the limitations of my verbal skills. In each piece my challenge is to communicate the familiar mystery of what it is to be human. Currently my focus is on the human form and faces. I create figurative sculpture posed in simple gestures to convey human emotion and relationships.
My love for plants, nature and the human form are communicated in my ceramic sculptures. As with all artists, my work continuously evolves, I eagerly pursue new challenges and never know where this journey will lead.
